Blackhawks Fall Again – NHL News And Scores For March 11th

UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks have begun another streak, although they hope this one doesn't set any NHL records. The Hawks have now dropped in a row after setting a league-mark by collecting points in their first 24 games.

Sam Gagner (GAHN'-yay) scored twice while Edmonton was building a 4-0 lead in the first period of a 6-5 victory at Chicago, ending the Blackhawks' nine-game home winning streak. Ryan Whitney and Taylor Hall each had a goal and an assist for Edmonton, which vacated the Western Conference cellar by halting a five-game skid.

The Hawks rallied for four goals in the second period but never tied the score after Mike Brown tallied 2:24 into the game.

Also on ice, Corey Perry scored the last two goals as Anaheim beat St. Louis 4-2, the Ducks' 11th consecutive home win. Bobby Ryan tied it early in the third and Andrew Cogliano had a short-handed goal to help the Ducks improve the NHL's second-best record to 18-3-3.

Montreal still tops the Eastern Conference after Michael Ryder scored a pair of power-play goals in a 5-2 win at Florida. Ryder has two goals and seven assists in seven games since being acquired from Dallas on Feb. 26.

Pittsburgh has a seven-point lead in the Atlantic Division after Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz (KOO'-nihts) led a 6-1 rout of the New York Islanders. Crosby tied a career high with five assists and Kunitz posted his second hat trick of the season as the Penguins won their fifth in a row despite playing without forward Evgeni Malkin due to an upper body injury.

Brian Boyle and Ryan Callahan scored 42 seconds apart in the second period of the New York Rangers' 4-1 win over Washington. Derek Stepan (STEP'-ahn) and Brad Richards also scored, and Martin Biron made 28 saves in the Rangers' fifth victory in six games.

Derick Brassard and R.J. Umberger had goals in regulation, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 20 saves through overtime as the Jackets completed a sweep of their home-and-home series with Detroit 3-2. The Blue Jackets have a five-game winning streak and are 5-0-2 in their last seven after getting only 12 points in their first 19.

Zach Parise's (pah-REE'-sayz) two goals and an assist lifted Minnesota past Vancouver 4-2, putting the Wild and Canucks in a tie for the Northwest Division lead. Jason Zucker and Jared Spurgeon also scored in the Wild's fourth consecutive home win.

Matt Duchene (doo-SHAYN') scored twice, including the game-winner with one second left in overtime to lead Colorado's 3-2 verdict over San Jose. The Sharks earned a point when Logan Couture (koo-CHUR') scored with 3:25 left in regulation.

New Jersey won for just the second time in nine games as Patrik Elias (EH'-lee-ahsh) scored the lone shootout goal in a 3-2 triumph over Winnipeg. Ryan Carter and Stephen Gionta (jee-AHN'-tah) scored in regulation to support Johan Hedberg, who made 23 saves through overtime and was perfect in the shootout.

Philadelphia ended a three-game losing streak by scoring three special-teams goals in a 3-2 win against Buffalo. Kimmo Timonen set up power-play goals by Simon Gagne (SEE'-mohn GAHN'-yay) and Claude Giroux (juh-roo), and Max Talbot scored while the Flyers were short-handed.
