The dream is now a reality for Josh Allen. He was chosen with the seventh pick by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night in Dallas.

Buffalo traded up five spots with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to grab Allen as their future quarterback. The Bills gave up the 12th overall pick, plus a pair of second-round selections in this year’s draft to get the former Wyoming QB. Buffalo got back a seventh-round choice from Tampa Bay

By going seventh overall, Allen became the highest-ever Cowboy football player selected in the NFL Draft and only the fourth from UW chosen in the first round. He’s also the first former Wyoming QB drafted since Casey Bramlet went in the seventh round to Cincinnati in 2004.

Allen was 16-9 as a starter in two years with the Cowboys. He threw for 5,066 yards and 44 touchdowns. Allen finished with 5,833 yards of total offense and accounted for 57 TDs. He ran for another 767 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He is the first Wyoming player selected in the first round in 42 years.
