Authorities say four people were rescued from a house fire that destroyed a west Casper home and caused minor damage to nearby residences early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in the 2900 block of Ridgecrest Drive at around 2:30 a.m. Casper Fire-EMS captain Patrick McJunkin said emergency crews found the home enveloped in flames upon arrival.

“It appears right now that the fire started in the garage area and extended outside to the vehicles parked in the driveway,” McJunkin said. “It then tried to extend into the living areas of the house.”

Crews sprayed nearby structures with water for protection. Ambient heat caused a window from a neighboring house to break.

McJunkin said the four people who escaped the blaze left uninjured. A family pet was also successfully rescued.

“We got indications from dispatch that the occupants of the house had not evacuated prior to our arrival,” McJunkin said. “They did locate two adults and two children inside the house initially, and they assisted them outside of the house.”

McJunkin said the blaze was put out roughly 10 minutes after the home was evacuated. He said the garage was declared a total loss, while the interior of the house suffered severe smoke and heat damage.

McJunkin said a car in the garage was destroyed. A pickup outside of the garage suffered severe damage to its front end.

Fire officials also say a camper on the property was damaged.

Authorities say the incident remains under investigation. Casper Fire-EMS has not yet determined an exact cause of the blaze.
