A Casper resident was riding a motorcycle on Saturday morning when he failed to negotiate a right hand curve. 51 year old Stuart Schmidt was riding south on WY 252 at around 12:18 a.m. when he lost control in the curve. The motorcycle drifted into and across the northbound lane where Mr. Schmidt applied the brakes and went off the left side of the road. The motorcycle crossed a driveway and hit some landscaping rocks. The impact threw Schmidt off the motorcycle and he was severely injured. After being taken to the hospital in Casper, Mr. Schmidt later died.

Schmidt was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and excessive speed is being investigated as the contributing factor.
