Cowboys Play Without Leading Scorer

It's hard enough to go on the road in the Mountain West Conference. It's even harder when you have to go on the road and play without your leading scorer and rebounder.  And it just doesn't get any easier as the University of Wyoming men's basketball team takes its two-game winning streak on the road on Tuesday, as the Cowboys face the San Diego State Aztecs at 8 p.m. MT in Viejas Arena. The Pokes (18-7, 4-7 MW) sit seventh in the Mountain West standings and start a stretch run against five teams in front of them with the Aztecs (18-7, 6-5 MW), who are 11-1 at home this season. Tomorrow nights game is the first time Wyoming has played an un-ranked San Diego State team since 2010 and will do so without their big man.

Senior forward Leonard Washington, who leads the Cowboys in scoring and rebounding, is doubtful to play against San Diego State on Tuesday. He rolled his ankle in the over time victory against Boise State Saturday. Leonard, who has averaged 13.8 points and 9.1 rebounds this season and notched a double-double in his last three games, will be missed.

The motto "next man up" will apply tomorrow night for other Cowboy players. Individuals like Sophomore forward Larry Nance Jr., who tied career highs in steals (5), assists (4) and blocks (3) against FSU, and Senior guard Derrious Gilmoure and Sophomore guard Riley Grabau will have to fill the shoes left open by the absence of Washington. And Conference Tournament time is not far off. Who is going to step up? The answer will come tomorrow night in San Diego.
