I've had to make the long drive to Laramie to watch a football game. While living and working in Gillette a number of years ago, I would make that long, odorous drive to the Gem City to watch the Pokes play and back then...it was well worth the trip. Lately however I don't envy those die hard Cowboy supporters who made that trip, and from further away, this past Saturday, only to see the Cowboy's lose their second home game in a row to a Division II school 24-22 to the Cal Poly Mustangs. For the second week in a row defense, or a lack there of, seemed to rear it's ugly head when they needed it the most allowing Cal Poly to drive 40 yards in 8 plays in the third quarter to go up 21-15.

Though the Pokes played without the benefits of their top offensive weapons in quarterback Brett Smith and wide receiver Robert Herron, the Cowboys did see some light in the tunnel with the play of freshman (yes freshman) Shaun Wick, who rushed for three touchdowns in his first career start.

The Cowboy's next stop will be a road game against Idaho next Saturday. That game can be heard on our sister station AM 1030 KTWO.
