Matthew James Harker, the cyclist injured from a collision in downtown Casper on Thursday, has died in a Denver hospital, according to a post by his brother on Facebook early Friday evening.

Harker, 39, was riding to work about 7:40 a.m. when an SUV struck him near First and Beech streets.

He was taken to the Wyoming Medical Center and then transferred to a hospital in Denver, according to police reports.

Harker's brother Emil wrote, "notwithstanding some successful medical interventions, the brain trauma was too excessive."

A childhood friend has set up a support fund to assist his wife and their three children, according to Harker.

The investigation into the accident still continues.

The SUV driver who was initially arrested for driving under the influence probably will be arrested pending other charges, according to police.
