Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine conducted a study of  chronic (heavy) marijuana smokers with some eye opening results.

Young People who indulge heavily can seriously affect working memory function by changing brain structures. Also revealed in the study are the dangers to people predisposed to mental illness.

Lead study author Matthew Smith and his team studied 100 people who had smoked marijuana for three years starting at ages 16 and 17 but had abstained from the drug for two years since. The participants also ranged from having no disorders to those with serious mental disorders such as schizophrenia.

The study also found heavy pot use affects memory and those participants in the study who had schizophrenia began smoking before they exhibited signs of the disease.

According to Smith, this heavy use of marijuana might boost the underlying disease process linked to schizophrenia, adding, "If someone has a family history of schizophrenia, they are increasing their risk of developing schizophrenia if they abuse marijuana."

I forgot what I was doing for a moment! What does all this mean? Moderation should be applied now more than ever with the laws on pot being relaxed around the Country.
