Tonight a great player was honored at half time in Swede Erickson Gym during the Thunderbird Classic.

When I was in high school there were two players I watched for three years play Mustang Basketball. And play it like all stars. One of those guys was Kenny "Gene" Morgan. He single handidly took the Mustangs to a state basketball title in 1970. He also helped me win a "C" club fight boxing title.

After high school many colleges called including UCLA. But Kenny decided to become a T Bird and stay in his home town of Casper.. And in the process the T Birds behind the platy of Kenny Morgan, and the coaching of Swede Erickson, won back to back Region IX Titles.

Here are some of "Gene's" incredible statistics.

Led Casper College to 2 Region IX Championships in 1971

One of only 10 T-Birds to tally 1,000 career points.

7th all time scoring for a career.

2nd in rebounding.

Holds the single game scoring record of 41 points in Sheridan in 1971.

Made the Olympics trial team in 1972.

Second team all American team in 1972.

Kenny Morgan was a gentle giant and a true professional. The City of Casper is lucky to call him their own.
