Former University of Wyoming football and NFL coach, Dennis Erickson, will be in charge of a brand new football team, in a brand new league next year.

ESPN announced Thursday that Erickson will lead the Salt Lake City franchise in the brand new Alliance of American Football League.

Erickson is 71 and has coached in several places including the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. He coached at Wyoming in 1986, and bounced around several college coaches jobs including Washington State, Miami, Oregon State, Idaho, and Arizona State. He was an assistant in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah  from 2013 to 2016.

AOAFL franchises have also been announced in Phoenix, Memphis, Orlando, and Atlanta. There re expected to be three more teams in the league.

The league will play a 10 week season beginning on February 9, 2019, right after the NFL season wraps up.

Other head coaches announced so far include: Brad Childress in Atlanta, Mike Singletary in Memphis, and Steve Spurrier in Orlando.
