In 2011, Cheyenne native Brandon Nimmo became the first Wyoming product ever selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft.

After being drafted with the 19th overall pick by the New York Mets, Nimmo has worked his way through the minor league system and was recently named among the top 100 prospects in baseball.

It's a matter of when, not if, he will make his big league debut. Unfortunately, Nimmo will have to wait a little while longer before getting called up to the show.

Nimmo saw limited playing time during the Mets spring training after suffering a torn foot tendon. The Cheyenne East alum, who reached base four times in 15 at bats this spring, was among the team's latest round of roster cuts last week.

If he can stay healthy, there's a good chance Nimmo will get his first taste of major league action sometime this season. The outfielder posted solid numbers last year with AAA affiliate Las Vegas and was added to the Mets official 40 man roster in the offseason.

Although he will begin this year in the minors, insiders expect Nimmo to join the big league team in September, when major league rosters are expanded from 25 to 40.
