Denny Hamlin may have had the strongest car in the race, but at the end of the Lenox Industrial 301 it was Kasey Kahne taking the checkered flag for his second victory of 2012 season.

It was a misunderstanding of pit strategy that cost Hamlin the race, and on a lap 240 restart he was way back in the pack.  Kahne led the last 66 laps for the win, his second this year, and the fourteenth victory of his career.

Kahne is in the 12th position in the point standings, and the only driver with a two wins. (The two drivers with 2 wins in positions 11 – 20 will qualify for “the Chase” as wildcards.  The tiebreaker being position in point standings.)

Hamlin was gaining on Kahne but ran out of time, and finished second.  Followed by Clint Bowyer in third, Dale Earnhardt Jr. fourth, and Brad Keselowski rounding out the Top 5.

No racing next weekend… Sprint Cup gets its last weekend off for the season.  Back to racing on July 29 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Here are the point standings as of July 15, 2012…
