A Casper man who allegedly fired his shotgun twice outside his home was arrested Thursday afternoon.

Jordan Bernard was booked into jail on a recommended misdemeanor discharging a firearm violation. He will likely make his initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court at 2 p.m. Friday.

Charging documents say police officers responded to an address on Glenarm Street at 12:18 p.m. Thursday for a shots fired report. Two others who lived on the street said they heard two gunshots and one man spoke with Bernard, who reportedly said he fired a gun.

Officers arrived in the area and saw Bernard looking out of the front door and front window of his home. Police yelled commands and called Bernard's cell phone multiple times.

After several minutes, Bernard exited the home and was handcuffed. Officers cleared the residence to make sure no one else was inside or hurt.

In speaking with officers initially, Bernard allegedly denied firing a gun and said he had just arrived home from a counseling session. He said he was not suicidal and didn't know why police had been called.

While cleaning the home, an officer allegedly found a black 12-gauge Winchester shotgun behind a door of the laundry room. The barrel was reportedly warm.

The shotgun was loaded, with a gold-colored shell inside the chamber, and the safety was in the 'off' position, court documents say. The officer also found two spent, gold-colored 12-gauge shells in the closet near where the shotgun had been found.

Neighbors told police they had been sitting at home when they heard gunshots. One neighbor walked to Bernard's door and asked whether he had fired the gun.

"Yeah, that was me," Bernard allegedly replied. He reportedly said he was fine before slamming the door.

That neighbor allegedly found a "gold shotgun shell on the ground near the gate" as she walked back to her residence.

The neighbor also said she believed Bernard was in a "bad place" mentally due to marital issues.

Bernard was arrested and taken to jail.

During a perimeter search of Bernard's home, police allegedly found a green plastic wad from a shotgun shell on the ground near the front door. It was collected as evidence.
