Muddy Mountain Road will be closing for the winter effective Tuesday, December 5th. That's according to the Bureau of Land Management Casper Field Office.
Muddy Mountain Road is the primary access route to the Muddy Mountain Environmental Education Area, two campgrounds, a number of trails and public lands managed by the BLM. Mud and snow make the road unsafe for vehicle traffic in the winter. However, the Muddy Mountain area is open for snowmobile use on designated state trails.

From the BLM:

"The BLM strives to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve, where we provide opportunities for economic growth with space for traditional uses such as ranching, mining, logging, and energy development as well as hunting and fishing.
Weather and road conditions close the road annually, but it will be open again in the spring."
