Filmmaking is always a chaotic process where things can go wrong (or right) at the drop of a hat, and this applies doubly to the world of animation. Since animated films take years to make, they're constantly evolving and being rewritten and often key members of the cast and crew are replaced as the project trudges on. We don't know the details yet, but it looks like the process has claimed another victim: director Bob Peterson has been reportedly pulled off of Pixar's 'The Good Dinosaur.'

In retrospect, all of the signs were there. The film was barely talked about at D23, with other films (like 'Inside Out') taking the spotlight. Peterson wasn't even present at Disney's convention, with co-director Pete Sohn appearing to represent the film.

To be fair, this is a rumor that has yet to be confirmed by Pixar or Disney (and it comes to us via Blue Sky Disney), but it wouldn't be the first time the acclaimed animation studio has replaced a director knee-deep in production. Brad Bird only joined 'Ratatouille' after months of development, "rescuing" the project. Brenda Chapman was fired off of 'Brave,' which made her winning an Oscar alongside the man who replaced her a truly awkward moment at last year's ceremony.

It would unfair to speculate why Peterson is leaving the project (if this turns out to be true), but Pixar has a habit of making radical changes and shake-ups if a movie isn't coming together the way they need it to. There is also no word yet on who will replace Peterson. 'The Good Dinosaur' is still being targeted for a 2014 release. We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
