I was standing in the control room of the radio station....jumping up and down yelling "we're up by one....and there's only 7 seconds left!" Then on a back screen Boise State Junior Jeff Elorrigga let a three pointer go with tenths of a second on the clock and "swoosh" in it goes and down go the University of Wyoming Cowboys for their first loss of the season and their first loss in Mountain West Conference play. With one shot the Cowboys go from first in the Conference to last.  And I almost cried. OK I cried. Because I've been a Cowboy hoops fan going back to the days of the old basketball floor played in the field house with the wood chip floor when Danny Ainge played for BYU.  Heck my dad was room mates with Kenny Sailor who played for the Cowboys when they went undefeated and won an NCAA title. So there I was. And the feeling carried over into the next day. I didn't want to go to work. I can only guess how the players felt. And it's a crucial loss to drop a home game (conference game) to start their Mountain West Conference season. But it's not the end of the world. It just feels like it.

So what do we do? We keep cheering. Keep writing the players. We move on. We put on our Wyoming shirts and we move on to the next game. Because now the Cowboys have to go on the road to the Lawlor Sports Center and play Nevada (who are 8-1 at home) in a Saturday afternoon game. The Wolf Pack are only in their second season in the Mountain West Conference and currently are looking to bounce back from a loss to Air Force. The Pokes are going to have to step up their first half focus if they are looking to get their first Conference win. The game can be heard on our sister station AM KTWO at 4pm Saturday. GO Pokes.
