A rare vintage vinyl record collection with an estimated value between $90K-$250K has been found in the unlikeliest of places — on a remote Air Force base located in the Pacific Ocean.

The collection, which was found at Wake Island Airfield, is comprised of almost 9,000 records that were specifically made for military audiences, as well as some that were commercially-available.

According to the Air Force, the collection was meant to be used by the American Forces Radio and Television Network as a way to distribute music to troops overseas.

No word on what exactly is in the collection, but sources say that the station operators on the base were big on Top 40 and comedy albums. (So we’re going to assume there is a mint condition of ‘Weird Al In 3-D’ buried somewhere in there.)

Sadly, audiophiles won’t get a chance to rifle through the carefully-preserved collection– the entire thing will be shipped to the AFRTN in Virginia.  Now we’ll never know if there’s a pristine copy of ‘Pac-Man Fever’ that needs a good home.
