Angry Birds

Even as video games go, the mobile app Angry Birds is pretty conceptually thin. There are birds. They are angry, ostensibly because green pigs have constructed elaborate castles all over their bird-world, and nobody likes developers. The birds live only to slingshot themselves at high speeds into said castles, destroying them and hopefully eliminating all pigs in the process...

Oh, boy. Here we go. The first trailer for The Angry Birds Movie is here this is the culmination of something. It’s big moment for something. The mere existence of this movie means something. We don’t know what those somethings are, though. All one can do at this moment is watch this preview and ponder, uh, something.

With over 200 million downloads to mobile devices, Angry Birds is a full-fledged phenomenon. Now an Atlanta teacher has found a way to use it as an educational tool as well. Since the birds are catapulted into the sky, John Burk, a ninth-grade physics teacher, felt it was a great way to teach students the laws of projectile motion.

The foul flinging puzzle game Angry Birds was released for the iPhone in December of 2009, and since then over 12 million copies have been purchased in Apple’s App Store. The makers of Angry Birds, Rovio Mobile, have since designed the game for other smartphones such as those using the Android OS.
