When you see a mountain, do you have the urge to climb to the top? When you are hiking on a trail, does your curiosity yearn to know what is behind the next turn? Do you ever want to know what it was like for the early explorers trodding through the mountains?

This video shows a tantalizing panoramic view from the summit of Fremont Mountain in the Wind River Range. The land looks untouched just as it appeared to the explorers in our early history. The mountain crests at the continental divide, and is the home to one of the American Rockies' largest glaciers.

The peak is named after John C. Fremont, the famous explorer, as his party was the first to reach its summit. According to the hiking website SummitPost.com, Kit Carson was also attempted to reach the peak but had to turn back for supplies. At that time, it was thought to be the tallest mountain in the Rockies. Much like most of our history, it was only a stepping stone on the Oregon Trail to somewhere else.
