Walmart isn't usually thought of as a progressive company, a fact of perception not helped by the thousands of funny MEME's and websites like the People of Walmart.  But, maybe the nation's largest retailer is changing their tune.

In a postcard mailed to their employees this week, the company said that domestic partners and same-sex couples will be eligible for health insurance beginning in 2014.

Walmart spokesman said, "Given the diverse world we're in, we wanted to have a comprehensive benefits packages that appeals to a contemporary workforce. We want to attract and retain the best workforce."

The announcement comes in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act.
