Cinco De Mayo, is Spanish for May 5. So I have to wonder why a state like Arizona, with a heavy Hispanic population, is Googling “When is Cinco De Mayo?” more than any other Cinco De Mayo search term. Three other states also searched that term the most, according to cabletv.com.

In 1862, the Mexican army defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla.  It's not celebrated much in Mexico but it is in U.S. where there are large Latino populations. On the 5th of May, tequila consumption doubles in the USA, most of that in Margaritas. And if that is not surprising enough, Americans consume twice as much tequila as Mexicans, where it came from in the first place.

Eight states most common search was for tequila or tequila sunrise on Cinco De Mayo in 2016. Thirteen states were looking for information on “What is Cinco De Mayo.”
