First of all, as a self defense instructor, I believe that EVERYONE needs to know how to defend themselves, and our world will never be safer than it is today. Here's a story out of Oklahoma about SELF-DEFENSE... and what you can do to protect your family inside your home.

On New Year's Eve, 18-year-old Sarah McKinley from Blanchard, Oklahoma was home with her three-month-old son, grieving. Her husband, had died of CANCER on Christmas Day.

She was home alone with the baby, when two men began trying to break into her house. The men have been identified as 24-year-old Justin Martin, and 29-year-old Dustin Stewart. And they were armed with a 12-inch hunting knife.

Sarah grabbed her baby up, and locked herself in the bedroom. She had sold most of her husbands guns to help with bills, but kept TWO GUNS, and she grabbed them both... a 12-gauge shotgun and a pistol. Then she called 911.

She asked for help, and asked the dispatcher,

I'm here by myself with my infant baby. I've got two guns in my hand. Is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?

The dispatcher basically gave her the green light,

I can't tell you that you can do that, but you do what you have to do to protect your baby.

The men got inside the house, then Martin kicked in the door to the bedroom and went at Sarah with a knife, she SHOT and KILLED HIM with the 12-gauge.

The DA has ruled it a justified shooting in self defense. In a statement, they say,

You're allowed to shoot an unauthorized person that is in your home. The law provides you the remedy, and sanctions the use of deadly force.

(You can see the laws for every state here.)

Sarah said,

I wouldn't have done it, but it was my son. It's not an easy decision to make, but I knew it was him or my son. And it wasn't going to be my son. There's nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child.

Here's video of Sarah and the dispatcher she spoke with...

After the shooting, the other guy took off, then turned himself into police. He said, that the two men had taken a bunch of pain killers before breaking into the house. It is believed that they were breaking in to steal pain medications that had been prescribed to her husband during his cancer treatments

Here's an interesting twist in the case though... STEWART is going to be charged with Martin's murder. Since he was participating in a felony that resulted in a death, even though Sarah is clear of murder charges, HE'S NOT.

Here's audio from the actual 911 call...
