How Many Games Will Wyoming Football Win This Fall?
LARAMIE -- How many games will the Wyoming football team win this fall?
That number sits at 6.5, according to most oddsmakers. That's already taking into account a season-opening loss at Arizona State. The Cowboys are currently a touchdown underdog in Tempe, per ESPNBet.
Jay Sawvel's squad was picked to finish sixth in the 12-team Mountain West Conference, per the league's media.
What does Wyoming's rookie head coach think about all the preseason predictions?
"I don't care," he said with a shrug from behind the podium in Las Vegas. "I'm actually glad we're picked where we were picked, partly because it shows us that we've got mountains to climb. We can talk about that stuff all that we want, but I think, internally, in our own building, what they see when they go work out and do stuff every day is not a sixth-place team. That's really all I care about right now."

This program won nine games last fall, including knocking off Toledo in the Arizona Bowl. There was the double-overtime upset victory over Texas Tech, the miracle against Appalachian State and the home win over No. 24 Fresno State.
What the outsiders likely see instead is a first-time head coach, a new starting quarterback and one of the top defensive players in the conference, Easton Gibbs, no longer residing on the high plains. There's also a new offensive scheme and question marks at cornerback and on the offensive line.
Sixth, though? This team does return 16 starters.
"I always say, the preseason stuff is cool to get accolades, but everything that matters comes in the postseason," sixth-year senior Jordan Bertagnole added.
