UW’s Reynolds Top Qualifier for NCAA Indoor Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., – Senior thrower Daniel Reynolds earned the top qualifying spot in the men’s weight throw for the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Reynolds jumped out to the nation’s lead for the first time this season and secured his bid after uncorking a Mountain West winning throw of 82’ 2 3/4" (25.06 meters).

This mark is now the No. 3 throw in collegiate history, only behind Michael Lihrman’s (Wisconsin) 25.58 meters in the 2015 season and Kibwe Johnson’s (Ashland) throw of 25.08 meters from 2007.
Reynolds looks to complete his undefeated season and become just the fourth in Wyoming track and field history to win a national championship, with the three winners being Wesley Maiyo (1,000-meter) in 1974, Ryan Butler (Weight Throw) in 1996 and Shauna Smith (400-meter Hurdles) in 2005.
The Indoor Championship will be held March 14 and 15, at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. This will be the first time the D-I championship will be held in Virginia Beach after D-II and D-III called it home over the last two seasons.
The championship meet will air on the ESPN family of networks with the men’s weight throw scheduled for Friday, March 14, at 4:05 p.m. MT.

Reynolds Receives First Career Votes for The Bowerman
Senior thrower Daniel Reynolds received votes for the first time in his career and becomes the first to receive votes in Wyoming history, in The Bowerman Pre-NCAA Indoor Championships watch list, released by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday.
The Bowerman, collegiate track and field’s highest honor, is bestowed each year to the top male and female athlete in NCAA and NAIA track and field. Bill Bowerman, the award’s namesake, was a track and field coaching legend at the University of Oregon from 1949-72, coach of the 1972 Olympic Team and led the formation of the United States Track and Field Federation.
Votes are compiled by members of The Bowerman Advisory Board, a group of national and regional media members, track and field statisticians, NCAA administrators, past winners and Presidents of affiliated organizations.
Voters produce a Top-10 list of the “who’s who” in collegiate track and field. While Reynolds did not garner enough votes for the consensus Top-10, he still appeared on members’ ballots.
The next voting update releases on March 27, following the NCAA Indoor Championships.
