LARAMIE -- No Wyoming football player will wear the No. 17 ever again.
Josh Allen, the NFL's reigning Most Valuable Player, returns to the high plains this Saturday to witness his jersey retirement, an honor no other Cowboy in the 132 years of the program has ever received.

"I actually get to go back to Wyoming after we play the Houston Texans. Number retirement. How about that?" Allen said in early September on the Like A Farmer Podcast. "So that's pretty cool."
Only two other jerseys, the No. 10 and 56, have been pulled from circulation. The latter belonged to former linebacker Dave Schutt, who was struck and killed by a train in downtown Laramie in 1988. The other belonged to quarterback Ed Synakowski, who was tragically killed in a boating accident at Lake Hattie back in 1970.
This honor was a no-brainer for Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman.
“It is very exciting and a wonderful day for the State of Wyoming,” Burman said in a September release. “It is going to be a big day in the history of Wyoming Football. Josh is the most high-profile ambassador the University of Wyoming has ever had.
"The National Football League is the most visible sports enterprise in history, and he is the best player in that league and that is pretty amazing in itself.”
Buffalo selected Allen with the No. 7 pick of the first round in the 2018 NFL Draft. Since arriving in Orchard Park, the Firebaugh, Calif., native has thrown for more than 28,000 yards and 213 touchdowns. He has led the Bills to five consecutive division crowns and two appearances in the AFC Championship game.
The face of the west stands will look a little different this Saturday when the Cowboys take on Nevada. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the game will be televised on Altitude. The contest will also be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
Allen's ceremony will take place during halftime.
Take a look below at some photos taken throughout Allen's tenure in Laramie, which began in 2015 and ended in 2017 with a lopsided victory in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
