The major NYC power outage in 1977 led to significant looting and arson. The 2003 blackout, a larger cascading failure, left millions without power and brought the city to a standstill, though looting was minimal compared to 1977. The governor of New York called out the National Guard in both cases. Nine months after those power outages, there was a spike in childbirths.

Thursday afternoon, 11/13/2025, tens of thousands of residents lost electricity across Wyoming and South Dakota. Rocky Mountain Power reported that roughly 55,000 customers in central and northeast Wyoming were affected.

The difference was that in Wyoming, most folks did not notice because they were working outside.

The video below is news footage of NYC without power.

Those who work inside the Cowboy state did notice. But they just dealt with the problem and forged on with their day.

No looting, no rioting. 9 months from now, the birth rate will be average.

Add this to the list of reasons that folks prefer to live in Wyoming over a place like NYC.

If this power outage had lasted overnight, most Wyomingites would have been fine, since they can heat their homes without help from the power plant. That is not true with everyone, but most can.

Watch the video below to see what Wyoming is like without power.

With an overnight power outage on a cold night in Wyoming, and all of those cozy woodstoves and fireplaces lit, then, perhaps, the birth rate would have spiked 9 months from now.

Losing electricity in Wyoming is annoying, but not the end of the world as we know it. Many people out this way even have their own generators, which they commonly use during the harshest of winter storms.

New Yorkers make fun of some from Wyoming, calling them "preppers," as if that is a bad thing.
