Tour Wyoming’s Most Famous Store
If you have lived in Wyoming long enough you know the name.
When you drive Wyoming's highways you've seen the signs.
LOU TAUBERTS.
This famous Wyoming store has just been featured on the YouTube page Today's Wild West, including an interview with the current owner who carried with him the family name and the store's name.
The video provides a few laughs and a tour through the store's Casper Wyoming location.
You can watch the video below.
It all started back in 1919 …
That was the year C.W. Taubert opened a hardware store in Fort Laramie, Wyoming.
Those humble beginnings sparked the beginning of a family retailing tradition that’s lasted for 100 years over four generations.
As a young boy growing up in Germany, C.W. was tempted by the allure of the American West, eventually making his way across the Atlantic, through Ellis Island, and out to the rugged Wyoming plains to fulfill his dream of becoming a cowboy.
In 1947, Curt and his son Lou went into business together under the name “Lou Taubert Ranch Outfitters,” bringing the retail business to downtown Casper, Wyo.
The store did well enough that they were able to expand to Billings, Montana, in 1980.
The Casper store has 55,000 sq. feet of retail space spread over 9 big floors, Lou Taubert Ranch Outfitters is the place to find boots, hats, and western clothing for the entire family.
CAUTION: If you have a hat addiction you might want to steer clear. The store is filled with great hats.
Should you visit make sure to take the old elevator up and back down, just for the thrill of it. It's creepy fun.
