Brian Lesh, son of former Grateful Dead bass player Phil Lesh, currently plays guitar with his father in their San Rafael, Calif. music venue Terrapin Crossroads. But before that they occasionally jammed together with the late Levon Helm at Helm's famous studio/barn in Woodstock, N.Y., with the last appearance coming in 2010.
On Saturday (April 13), nearly one year to the day after his death, ‘Ain’t In It For My Health: A Film About Levon Helm’ will be shown in Helm's hometown of Woodstock, N.Y.
On Oct. 3, 2012, less than six months after Levon Helm lost his long battle with cancer, a large and eclectic group of his friends, family, and peers assembled on stage at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., paying tribute to the man and his musical legacy in front of nearly 20,000 fans. The result, fittingly enough, was dubbed 'Love for Levon.'
Elton John will join a stagefull of musicians to honor the late Levon Helm during the in memoriam moment at the 2013 Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 10). The all-star lineup will perform the Band song 'The Weight' as the Academy honors musicians who died in the last 12 months.
Levon Helm, former drummer for the Band, has lost his battle with throat cancer. The legendary musician, whose voice gave life to classic songs such as ‘The Weight,’ ‘Up on Cripple Creek’ and ‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,’ was 71 years old.
Levon Helm singer/drummer founder of The Band "is in the final stages of his battle with cancer," according to a message Helm's wife, Sandy, and daughter Amy posted on his website.
