100 Years Ago: Wyoming Town Sets Record For Coldest October Day

It's another brisk autumn day here in the Cowboy State. Thankfully, the last weekend in October will be much warmer in 2017 than it was in 1917.

Sunday marks the 100th anniversary of the lowest temperature ever recorded in the continental United States during the month of October. October 29, 1917, a record-setting cold front swept across the state.

Cheyenne was a balmy 2 degrees. In Lander, the low temperature hit -14. At Soda Butte in Yellowstone National Park, the mercury plummeted to 33 degrees below zero.

100 years later, it's still the coldest October day ever recorded in the lower 48.
