It is that time of year again where the trees turn gold and orange. Here in Wyoming, it can be a short window of time to see the colors change. Therefore, we are bringing you a list of ideal places to see the fall colors in Casper. Follow this list to make a delightful fall afternoon road trip. Or venture the road less traveled, but please share your photos with us on Facebook!

Timing is everything. It is entirely possible that areas like up on Casper Mountain will transform at a different time than in town. That means you have to be selective about where you want to visit. You can use this map to pick the ideal timing. Then the next question you have to ask yourself is whether or not to pack a lunch.

This area on Casper Mountain has the most visible area of aspen trees. You can find a nice mix of green lodgepole pines and golden foliage. It also would be wise to bring a jacket.

  • Rotary Park and Garden Creek Falls

If the trails are not too muddy, the path to the Garden Creek Falls is a nice short walk full of aspen trees. Plus there are plenty of good picnic spots.

  • Muddy Mountain

Just a short distance from Tyler's Corner on Casper Mountain Road, the pine trees will disappear to a wide open valley between Casper Mountain and Muddy Mountain. Along the range are patches of Aspen trees. Right now you will also get the rust red from the pine beetle kill.

This time of year, I'd recommend turning around before you descend off Casper Mountain. On a good day it is better to have 4-wheel-drive, then add some rain, and there is a reason they call it muddy.

  • North Platte River Trails

Stop off at Morrad Park or the Tate Pump House for a stroll along the North Platte River Trail. The cottonwood and aspen should be gaining its seasonal hues.

  • Edness Kimball Wilkins Park

Drive over to Edness. There are long walking paths, wildlife, a couple of-of ponds, and the river. It is one my favorite places to take photos for any season. It is a gem in Casper for nature lovers.
