Allen and Wingard Receive Preseason Player of the Year Honors
Wyoming juniors Josh Allen and Andrew Wingard were chosen as Preseason Mountain West Players of the Year Tuesday at the Mountain West Media Summit.
The conference released its Preseason All-Conference Team with special honors and the Predicted Order of Finish from Las Vegas in voting by 28 media members that cover the league.
Allen was chosen as the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Wingard was selected as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. It’s the first time Wyoming’s had two players earn those honors in the history of the Mountain West.
Both are on the Preseason All-Conference Team along with sophomore linebacker Logan Wilson, who is the only sophomore to receive that distinction. It’s the second straight year that three Cowboys are on the Preseason All-MW team.
Wyoming was picked to finish third in the Mountain Division. The Pokes received one first-place vote and 114 total points in balloting. Boise State was chosen at the favorite in the division with 21 first-place votes and 161 points. Colorado State was selected second with six first-place tallies and 135 points.
Defending MW champion San Diego State was picked to win the West Division by unanimous vote.
The Cowboys begin fall camp on Monday, July 31. The season debut is Sept. 2 at Iowa.
