Amateur Archaeologist Proves Fred Flintstone Was From Wyoming

No matter what age you are, you know the Flintstones.

You know about when they lived.

But have you ever thought about WHERE they lived?

Yeah, I know, the town of Bedrock. But where on Earth, literally, is that?

Let's have a look at the opening song for the popular TV show and examine the clues.

The classic TV gem (likely still in carbon form at the time), a takeoff of Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners" and the longest-running primetime cartoon until overtaken by "The Simpsons," follows Fred and Wilma Flintstone, a suburban Bedrock couple with mid-20th Century sensibilities living in 10,000 B.C. (USA Today).

Okay, 10,000 B.C.. GOT IT.

The TV show has palm trees in the background and ferns. It's rather tropical looking.

Wyoming was once tropical, until about 10,000 B.C. That is when that inconvenient ice age hit and wrecked everything. Pesky climate change. Always happening and never stops does it?

There were wooly mammoths in the Flintstone TV show. We have found plenty of evidence of those here in the state.

Fred Flintstone was a member of the Buffalo Lodge where they were huge furry bison hats with horns on them. Buffalo - Wyoming - it's all making sense.

Fred worked at a rock quarry. There are plenty of those in Wyoming now. In fact, mining is still a major industry in Wyoming, to this day.

We don't see any evidence of dinosaurs living in Wyoming alongside humans, we do see that the exact types of dinos in the TV show were the kind that lived in Wyoming millions of years ago.

They even show saber tooth tigers in the show. We have found a lot of evidence of those big-toothed cats right here in Wyoming. The family even had one as a pet.

While the exact location of Fred and Wilma's house is not known, it is believed that Bedrock was later renamed Rock Springs.

So there you have it.

I even found a Flintstone Cowboy episode.

The only thing I could not find was any evidence of Fred attending a rodeo.
