Listen to Brian Johnson’s First Post-AC/DC Recording, ‘Old Friends Don’t Come Easy’
The latest release from the Greg Billings Band features a vocal assist by Brian Johnson — his first studio performance since departing AC/DC earlier this year.
The new song, "Old Friends Don't Come Easy" — which you can hear above — is just the latest in a long series of collaborations between Johnson and Billings, who's been a fixture on the Florida music circuit since his first days fronting the band Stranger in the early '80s. Since departing Stranger in 1996, Billings has continued to perform in the area on a regular basis while maintaining friendships with fellow rockers like Johnson and Cheap Trick frontman Robin Zander — both of whom appear on the Greg Billings Band's upcoming CD, Boom Boom All Night!
"These guys," Billings noted in a 2011 interview, "are really good friends who actually can come over to my house and I feel comfortable getting creative with."
Although Johnson has given no clear indication of his future musical plans since hearing problems forced his exit from AC/DC, he's vowed to continue his career in some capacity — and earlier this year, he met with an inventor who offered to outfit him with a new and improved hearing aid of his own invention, coming away "amazed" after sampling the product.
While "Old Friends Don't Come Easy" whets the appetite for new recordings from Johnson, he's keeping busy as the host of The Producers, a new online radio program devoted (as the title implies) to looking at the lives and careers of some of rock's best-known producers.
Johnson showed up on Jim Breuer's "Mr. Rock n Roll" shortly after he left AC/DC, but that song was likely recorded before his exit from the band.
