Is it just me, or are flies horrible this year? Typically the pesky insects are a nuisance, but they have been driving me mad this summer here in Casper. I've tried using a fly swatter. It is useful, but you have to wait for the perfect moment to strike.

It boils down to a few methods. This information comes from WikiHow on how to Get Rid of Flies in the House. The first step should be prevention. Clean up the house. Pick up the dog poop in the backyard. Empty the trash. Make sure the dishes are picked up around the house. WikiHow even advises to clean windows, drains, and around all appliances.

Often, even a super clean house will still attract flies. What else can you do?

Smash Them - I call this the assassin method. There are several products out there to kill the little like a traditional fly swatter, an electrically powered swatter, pesticides sprays, or even the Bug A-Salt rifle. No matter the product, it comes down to the hunt. Finding the bug and kill it.

Poison Them - On the market, there are a variety of insecticides both toxic and non-toxic to animals. Each is different, so make sure to read the label carefully. The last thing you want to do is make yourself sick.

Deter Them - Some plants or essential oils supposedly repel flies. There are even some chemical sprays you can buy.

Deal With It - The heat of summer only last so long. It is Wyoming, so sooner or later the cold and wind will return. The cold will kill the bugs that don't blow away. Score one for the wind!
