Casper Native, New Orleans-based International Performer Spencer Bohren Has Died

Spencer Bohren, a Casper native and internationally known musician who made New Orleans his home, has died, according to his family on his Facebook page.

"Surrounded by all of us, Spencer Bohren moved on from this earthly plane last night.

"We ask for a few days of space as we celebrate his life and mourn his passing as a family.

According to an obituary in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the blues and folk guitarist was known for performing in more than 100 tours in nearly every country in Europe.

In the mid-1970s, Bohren and his wife, Marilyn, left Boulder, Colo., and found a home in New Orleans, where they started their family. He became a fixture in the city’s music scene with weekly gigs at the now-legendary Tipitina’s and the Old Absinthe Bar, according to the obituary.

In 1983, he recorded his first album, “Born in a Biscayne,” featuring New Orleans music legend Dr. John, who died Thursday.

Bohren was born in 1950 in Casper, and started publicly performing at age 14, according to the obituary.

After his diagnosis of stage IV prostate cancer, he canceled a tour in Germany, but still appeared in events in New Orleans.

Bohren is survived by his wife and four children, according to the obituary.
