Casper Sex Offender Arrested for Assaulting, Stalking Woman

Casper police on Thursday arrested a Casper man who allegedly assaulted a woman in late April and mid-May.

Gill Eldor Weidner, 47, was booked into jail on recommended charges of burglary, two counts of aggravated assault, property damage, criminal entry, domestic battery and stalking. He will likely make his initial court appearance at 2 p.m. Friday.

According to the affidavit filed in the case, the victim told an investigator that she met Weidner while working in a fast-food restaurant in March 2016. After maintaining a friendship with him for several months, she invited Weidner to move into her home, because he had been living in a trailer with no heat.

In October, after the two had moved into another apartment, police were called to the residence and Weidner was trespassed from the location because he was a registered sex offender, having been convicted in 1993 of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, and the victim has a child.

In the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018, the relationship between Weidner and the alleged victim became sexual. Later, after the victim started dating another man, Weidner reportedly became "really hostile" toward the victim and acted like "someone was trying to take his property."

On April 28, Weidner allegedly drove the victim up Casper Mountain -- instead of taking her to work, as promised -- and allegedly assaulted her, holding a folding knife to her neck and asking her if she wanted to die.

Then, on May 19, the victim returned home from a trip to find her home was "destroyed" and a number of items were missing. A three-foot hole was found in the drywall that connected an outside storage room to the home, and the victim allegedly found Weidner's work hammer and a knife sheath near the damaged wall.

Following the burglary, the Wyoming Department of Family Services contacted the victim regarding the safety of her child. The victim believed Weidner had called DFS in an attempt to get her in trouble.

During a third break-in, the victim saw that her grandfather's violin had been stabbed and her boyfriend's underwear had been cut up.

In the same time frame, the victim had been contacted on Facebook messenger by an old friend named Tim. After several days of messaging, Tim asked to meet the victim for dinner at a local bar.

While in the driver's seat of her car in the bar parking lot, the victim felt someone wrap their hands around her neck. It was allegedly Weidner, who had posed as "Tim" in order to lure the victim to the location so that he could "talk to her."

In a police interview, Weidner allegedly admitted to the assaults but denied holding a knife to the woman's neck. He also allegedly admitted to damaging the drywall at her apartment, having gone there to "take pictures" and then cut up the boyfriend's underwear.

Weidner also allegedly admitted to calling the Department of Family Services and reporting the victim.

Following his arrest on Thursday, Weidner reportedly made suicidal statements and was placed in secure holding at the Natrona County Detention Center so that he could be monitored.
