It's true, according to this article from Ranker.com watching scary movies can bring couples closer together.

I wasn't super surprised when I first read this claim. After all, the very rare time that I watch a scary movie with Mr. Prairie Wife I often end up curled up in his lap clasping his hand for dear life.

Snuggling up in a movie theater grasping your date's hand during a scary movie is an iconic scene because it is so common, and a "trick" often used by high school boys over the last few decades.

I even found a how-to YouTube video titled "How to Flirt at the Movies" just in case you need a little help.

But, it turns out there is more to it than that.

When you and your partner cuddle up to watch your favorite horror flick, the feeling of being scared releases a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine is responsible for the "feel good" reaction we have to external stimuli. It's also what makes us feel love and attraction.

Think about it.

When you're watching a scary movie your heart rate speeds up, your hands sweat and your pupils dilate...all the same, symptoms as when you have a hot date and you're excited.

Watching a good movie together also gives you lots to talk about afterward, creates fun memories, and offers a chance to bond over shared favorite moments or fears.

So, if you're looking to get closer to your partner (physically and emotionally) listen to the experts and put in a scary flick.
