Cowboys Face Falcons in Home Finale [VIDEOS]
Going for their third straight win and continuing their quest for bowl eligibility, the Wyoming Cowboys host the Air Force Falcons Saturday in Laramie.
The teams have identical records coming into the match-up. They are both 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain West. The Cowboys and Falcons need to win their last two to get bowl eligible. A loss would eliminate either team from contention.
Wyoming is coming off a bye week after back-to-back wins over Colorado State and San Jose State. Air Force enters off a 42-24 victory over New Mexico at home last week.
Saturday is also Senior Day, as 16 seniors will be honored prior to the game. KOWB’s David Settle talked to both running back Nico Evans and safety Andrew Wingard about their final home game in a Cowboy uniform, plus preparing for the Falcons, and much more.
This Senior Class has been part of back-to-back eight-win season, back-to-back bowl appearances, a Mountain Division title, an appearance in and hosting the Mountain West Championship game, and helped knock off two Top-25 ranked teams among other things.
As for the match-up, the two teams are very similar. Their strength is running the football and also stopping the run on defense.
Wyoming features the No. 2 rusher in the nation in Evans. He averages 145.8 yards per game. As a team, UW is at 191.6 yards per game for No. 48 in the country. They’ve had two 100-yard rushers for the last three games. With freshman Sean Chambers at QB, the Pokes have been averaging 315.3 yards per game rushing.
Air Force has the No. 7 ground attack that averages 264.7 yards per game out of their triple option.
Both defenses do a nice job of stopping the run. Wyoming is No. 19 in the country against the run. They allow only 114.3 yards per game. Air Force is only slightly behind at 22nd in the nation. The Falcons give up 122.8 per game on the ground.
This will the 57th meeting between the two schools on the gridiron. It’s the 39th consecutive season they played each other. Air Force leads the series 28-25 with three ties. The Cowboys have won two in a row and four of the last five meetings.
Saturday’s game starts at 2 p.m. from War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. Snow is in the forecast with a high temperature of only 21 degrees.
KOWB (AM 1290) will air the game live on the radio, KOWB app, online and on Amazon Alexa-enabled devices. Coverage will begin at 11 a.m. Cowboy Talk will follow the network radio broadcast.
