Cowboys Face Rival Rams in Laramie
The Wyoming Cowboys will look to make it six straight wins tonight against Colorado State, when the Cowboys host the Rams in Laramie.
This is the first edition of the Border War in basketball. Game time is at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
Wyoming (16-10, 6-7) enters off a loss at Utah State last Saturday. Meanwhile, Colorado State (17-9, 9-4) has surged into second in the Mountain West standings. The Rams have won three straight and six of their last seven games. That’s even been with a shortened roster of only eight players, as CSU lost three due to academic ineligibility earlier this season.
Cowboys head coach Allen Edwards said they might have lost bodies, but they’re still finding ways to win.
“I think that just goes to the credit of Coach (Larry) Eustachy and the kids that he has in his program. I think they’re a very, very tough-minded defensive team. They really do a good job on that end, and they’ve bought into that.”
The Pokes have won five straight games in the series. Senior Jason McManamen’s been part of those, and he says there’s not much you can take from that.
“We’re a different team this year. They’re a different team this year. They’re playing well this year. They’re the top of the conference, one of the top two teams in the conference, so it’s going to be a good challenge for us.”
Junior Alan Herndon is one of four players on the Wyoming roster that hails from the state of Colorado. He says to get ready for this game, his message to the team would be simple.
“Just to be ready to embrace the crowd and embrace what this rivalry is. Just know that you’ve got to play your hardest because both teams definitely hold a lot of pride behind this game and wanna win.”
Tonight’s game will mark the 226th game in the series. It will actually be only the second ever meeting on Valentine’s Day. The first was in 1987, and the Cowboys won in triple overtime, 81-78.
