Spin.com is reporting that Chicago Mayor, Rahm Emanuel has declared September 23rd, "David Bowie Day," in the City of Broad Shoulders.

The date coincides with the opening of the upcoming "David Bowie Is" exhibit at the city's Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibit showcases the British musician's life and his career.

Emanuel declared in an official proclamation that Bowie is "an undisputed global icon." He added, "His remarkable half-century career has bridged cultures and faiths while both transcending and fortifying the music, art, fashion & design and theatrical canons."

The traveling Bowie exhibit previously visited London's Victoria and Albert Museum and Germany's Martin-Gropius-Bau.
