A Gillette resident died Friday evening after her car crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck.

Lindsey Konyn, 30, was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene, according to a statement from Sgt. Jeremy Beck of the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The crash, which occurred on Southern Drive within Gillette City limits at roughly 7 p.m., resulted when Konyn's 2012 Chevrolet Cruze failed to negotiate a right-hand curve.

The driver of the pickup truck, 29-year-old Devon Erickson of Gillette, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.

Troopers are still investigating the crash, but speeding too fast for winter conditions is being examined as a possible contributing factor. The roadway was covered with ice and snow at the time of the wreck.

Konyn is the 27th person to die on Wyoming highways in 2019 compared to 12 deaths by this point in 2018, 14 fatalities in 2017 and 10 people killed in 2016 to date.
