It started as an innocent conversation between Drew and me during the My Country Morning Show.

I recently purchased a new refrigerator and freezer Combo and in the process of moving food from the old fridge to the new one...I realized that I had quite a few condiments that were well past their expiration date.

Like...years past their expiration dates.

When I cleaned out our freezer I had to throw away more than a few packages of meat that was so freezer burned that it was unrecognizable.

This conversation had us asking out listeners how often THEY clean out their refrigerators, and frankly, the answers surprised us.

Apparently, Drew and I are gross...who knew?

Before I share with you what our listeners said, I want to let you know how often the "experts" say you should clean out your fridge.

And by experts, I mean the staff at RealSimple.comTasteofHome.com, and of course we had to look at GoodHousekeeping.com too.

All of them agreed that every 3 to 4 months was fine.

Yup, that's right...you only need to clean out your fridge every 3 to 4 months. And your freezer every 6 to 8 months.

Let's see what Wyomingites had to say, and then talk about the differences.

Here's How Often Wyomingites Clean Out Their Fridge

Looks like most of you are WAY cleaner than you need to be.

Though, I think that there may be some differences in the definition of "clean".

I naturally go through my fridge and throw out leftovers or obviously outdated or spoiled food whenever I go to the grocery store, but I don't consider this cleaning my fridge.

To me, cleaning involves wiping things down and reorganizing and purging everything.
