The Pokes, who set a single season attendance record in 2023, will open the home portion of the schedule against Idaho on Saturday, Sept. 7 inside War Memorial Stadium. That contest will be the first of six home games for Wyoming in 2024 and the first chance for Cowboy fans to see the first phase of renovations to War Memorial Stadium.

Wyoming's 2024 slate also features a pair of bye weeks.

The Mountain West is coming off a 2023 season in which seven teams played in bowl games. The 2024 season will see six new head coaches take the reins at MW schools and will be the first under a new multi-year deal with Old Trapper to serve as the title sponsor of the Mountain West Football Championship game.

Games against Oregon State and Washington State will not count toward the MW standings and those two squads will not be eligible to participate in the Old Trapper MW Championship. The scheduling agreement strengthens the Conference’s nonconference schedule, enhances the league’s national brand and expands the MW footprint.

The 2024 schedule will play out over 15 weeks, concluding with the Old Trapper Mountain West Football Championship game on a date to be announced. The contest will feature the two teams with the highest Conference winning percentage.

Today’s release represents the first phase in the 2024 football schedule process. Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports and FOX Sports will now initiate a selection procedure which will include the shifting of particular games to non-Saturday dates. That will be followed by the identification of network outlets and kick times.

WYOMING WILL RETURN AN EXCITING CORE OF PLAYERS

First-year head coach Jay Sawvel returns a core of veteran players to his roster including three players who earned All-Mountain West honors a season ago along with the MVP of the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl.

Jordan Bertagnole earned Second-Team All-MW honors and is joined by Wyett Ekler (Honorable Mention) to anchor a veteran group that also features the return of linebacker Shae Suiaunoa and host of other returners, as Wyoming brings back six of their top seven tacklers from last season.

The Wyoming offense welcomes back honorable mention All-MW running back Harrison Waylee along with a strong group that includes tight end John Michael Gyllenborg and quarterback Evan Svoboda, as he helped lead the Pokes to a comeback win in the win over Toledo in the Arizona Bowl. Kicker John Hoyland was named the MVP of the 2023 Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
