It's been pretty nice that, for the last few months, traffic has been flowing normally on I-25 since the construction was completed. Like all things, that's going to end next week, when the next phase of reconstruction begins.

The $42.9 million project is expected to last through 2028, and will spread from Walsh Drive through Center Street on I-25.

According to WYDOT, the project highlights are:

  • Replacement of northbound and southbound bridges over McKinley Street.
  •  Demolition of bridge at Hereford Lane over the interstate.
  •  Addition of weave lanes on northbound and southbound interstate lanes between Center Street and Beverly Street.
  •  Resurfacing and reconstruction of on/off ramps between Center Street and Beverly Street. This work will affect traffic along E and F streets.
  •  Replacement of water and sewer lines along with other infrastructure improvements.

Next Friday, April 24, lane reductions will begin. I-25 will be reduced down to one lane going north and one lane going south, the speed limit will also be dropped to 45 through this zone.

The plan, at this time, is for the northbound McKinley Street bridge demolision to begin on May 12, with the possibility of being completed by October, when the next step of demolision of the southboud bridge.

The job was awarded to WW Clyde this past December. The Utah-based company has worked on other projects in Wyoming over the last couple of years, including the I-80 project near Rock Springs in 2022.

If you travel I-25 often, you have a week to find a new route to try and avoid the soon-to-be construction area, before work begins.
