If you're going to spend the time and money to visit Yellowstone National Park, you shouldn't cut any corners. There's a good chance that it may be your only shot of visiting.

Dr. Sierra Richard has compiled a list of the ten mistakes you should avoid while visiting Yellowstone. She's not a representative of the park, and no one is paying her to do the list. She's a tourist and a self-proclaimed "geyser gazer" who loved her visit and wants to make sure people do it right.

Here is Dr. Richard's Top 10 list of mistakes NOT to make, along with a video and full explanation below.

• Mistake 1 - Not spending enough time at the park - spend 5 to 7 days to take in as much as you possibly can.
• Mistake 2 - Only watching the Old Faithful Geyser and then leaving - geyser gazers will agree that there is more to see than just the most popular one.
• Mistake 3 - Don't enjoy the small thermal features along the boardwalks - they're part of what makes Yellowstone so unique.
• Mistake 4 - Get on a bike - lots to see, little time. Bikes get you around quicker.
• Mistake 5 - Not adding waterfalls to the agenda - The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone has to be at the top of the list of falls to see.
• Mistake 6 - Not touring the Old Faithful Inn - The 7-story high inn is the world's largest log structure.
• Mistake 7 - Stepping off the trails or putting any body parts into the thermal features. - you may see bison tracks, but you're not a bison...don't try it.
• Mistake 8 - Don't get too close to the wildlife - stay back, and you'll be safe(er).
• Mistake 9 - Do not visit Grand Teton National Park during your Yellowstone visit. It offers a breathtaking view from nearly every angle.
• Mistake 10 - Enjoy the trip to and from Yellowstone - it's not an easy trip, but there are some great stops along the way.

These 10 mistakes are certainly ones you don't want to make, and I'm sure you can think of a few more. This is a great way to plan out at least part of your Yellowstone National Park experience.
