WyoPreps Preseason Girls Basketball Poll Debuts for the 2023-24 Season

Two defending champions begin the new season at the top of the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Preseason Girls Basketball Poll on Monday.

The 2023-24 season debuts later this week. These are the first rankings. WyoPreps gave every head coach and several media members around the state a chance to vote in the preseason poll.

The top teams are Cody, Douglas, Tongue River, and Cokeville.

The Panthers start at No. 1 in Class 1A after a third-place finish at the state tournament last March. Cokeville has six first-place votes, but it is the seven second-place votes that push them to the top spot. Defending champion Upton is second. The Bobcats earned the other seven first-place votes. Southeast is third in the preseason voting, followed by Burlington and Little Snake River, in fourth and fifth, respectively.

In 2A, a team that lost in the third-place game at the state tourney, the Tongue River Eagles, starts a new season in the top position. They earned five first and five second-place votes to outdistance the rest of the field. Defending champ Burns comes in at second. Wyoming Indian is a close third. Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Sundance are tied for fourth. Seven more teams received at least one vote.

Five-time defending champion Douglas holds the No. 1 ranking in Class 3A again. The Bearcats garnered 16 of the 20 first-place votes. Buffalo picked up the other four first-place votes. The Bison follow in second. Powell, Mountain View, and Lyman round out the top five.

Finally, in Class 4A, defending champion Cody is ranked No. 1. The Fillies receive 12 of the 17 first-place votes. Cheyenne East is second in the preseason poll. Thunder Basin checks in at third. Campbell County and Laramie are tied for fourth.
