Round 2, Heavy Snow For Wyoming, Wednesday
Tuesday's rain and snow event for Wyoming and the region has been a good one, and just the wet we have been needing.
Those areas that got snow will see most of it melt off in the afternoon. There might be some late-day showers.
BUT WE ARE NOT DONE!
Round 2 of this system comes in Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, and it is bringing even more of what we need.
A second wave of heavy, wet snow is expected to hit southeast Wyoming late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, May 6, 2026.
This "second round" follows an initial burst of precipitation that began late Monday.
Expected Accumulations & Timing
Cheyenne is forecasted to receive between 4 and 10 inches of total snow through Wednesday.
The second round of snow will likely be most intense late Tuesday night into early Wednesday.
Higher elevations like the Snowy and Laramie Ranges could see significantly more, with some areas potentially exceeding 18–24 inches.
Snow showers are expected to linger through Wednesday morning before gradually decreasing by noon.
Those snowy road conditions some of our area had to deal with on Monday will be nothing compared to what's coming for round 2.
Travel Disruptions: Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for much of southeast Wyoming, including Cheyenne and Laramie.
Driving conditions on I-80 (between Rawlins and Cheyenne) and I-25 (between Wheatland and the Colorado line) will be slick and hazardous.
Because many trees have already leafed out, the weight of the heavy, wet snow may cause broken limbs and power outages.
Just when you thought you were going to get through this without any wind -- this is Wyoming after all. Winds gusting up to 30–45 mph could create blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially over mountain passes.
