Jury Reaches Split Verdict in Former Wyoming Trooper’s Trial
A Laramie County jury on Thursday returned a split verdict in the case against a former Wyoming Highway Patrol sergeant charged with sexually assaulting two women.
The jury found Gabriel Testerman guilty on one of three counts of first-degree sexual assault.
The information alleged that on or between July 23 and Aug. 1, 2021, and on or about April 25, 2022, Testerman did unlawfully "inflict sexual intrusion" on the women "causing submission (through) physical force or forcible confinement."
On May 2, 2022, the Patrol was contacted by the Cheyenne Police Department about an investigation involving Testerman, and he was immediately removed from service and placed on administrative leave.
Testerman was arrested by the Laramie County Sheriff's Office on Aug. 30, 2022, and pleaded not guilty to the charges on Sept. 19, 2022.
Testerman is facing a sentence of five to 50 years in prison. His sentencing will be set as soon as a presentence investigation is complete, which usually takes a few months.
