The Wyoming Legislature was not in session on Monday, taking the day off for President's Day.

Elon Musk, Wyoming Freedom Caucus Criticized

Many of the protestors carried signs equating the 47th president with Adolf Hitler and decrying Trump's policies on immigration and various other issues. Elon Musk likewise came in for heavy criticism, with the crowd at one point breaking into a chant of "hey hey, ho, ho, Elon Musk has got to go!" Signs calling for Musk's deportation were also carried by some rally-goers.

The Wyoming Legislature in general and the conservative Freedom Caucus faction specifically were also targets, with some signs decrying bills aimed at keeping transgender persons born as men from women's restrooms as well as other Freedom Caucus political stands.

The Wyoming rally was one of 50 planned  for state capitals across the country on Monday by Trump opponents.

Trump Is Overwhelmingly Popular In Wyoming

It's worth noting that Trump is overwhelmingly popular in deep-red Wyoming, a state he carried by an almost three to one margin in November, garnering 72.3 percent of the vote to 26.1 percent for Democrat Kamala Harris.

Wyoming has not voted for a Democrat in a presidential election since 1964, and doesn't seem likely to do so anytime soon.

Joe Ramirez of Cheyenne seemed to be the de facto leader of Monday's rally. He said he wasn't representing any particular organization at the event, but "just me and the protesters."

Ramirez: People Have A Right To Protest

When asked why the event was important, he said ''Because people have the right to protest, to assemble. And when things are not correct in our government, as they currently are, they have the right to get together and do some common sense protesting.''

Ramirez says two more local protests are slated. one on February 27 and another on March 6, which is scheduled to be the last day of the Wyoming Legislature's 2025 session.

A small group of counter protesters carrying Trump flags gathered across the street at one point. While the two groups yelled comments at one another, it was difficult to clearly make out what was being said.
