Beginning in the upcoming school year, parents and guardians will no longer need to buy school supplies for their students, if the Natrona County School District Board of Trustees approves a new annual budget plan.

In a budget process update posted on its website Monday morning, the district said each school would be allocated funds equal to $45 per student to purchase school supplies, under the proposed plan.

"The Natrona County School District Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring all students in Natrona County have the resources and material available to them to come to school ready to learn," the district said.

Also beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year, the district would no longer charge admission fees to school athletic and activity events.

"Kelly Walsh High School and Natrona County High School budgets will be supplemented by $75,000 per year to offset the cost," the district said.

The proposals were recommended by the district's Board Budget Development Committee, which met Monday morning to review the Fiscal Year 2020 Conceptual Budget plan. That plan sets the financial outline for the district to achieve its strategic goals.

The committee recommended moving forward with the school allocations recommendation, the district said.

The district uses a decentralized budget process, which allocates funds for each school and allows the a budget team for each school to prioritize and utilize the funds in the most appropriate way for that particular school.

The trustees are set to vote on the annual budget for fiscal year 2020 on July 10.
